They specialize in newstainment, pro-war, pro-Capitalist reporting. Oh yeah, they raise money constantly.

What's the difference between NPR and FOX? Give me some time and I'll think of at least one thing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27644679.post-77071419080015021262008-05-19T17:31:00.000-05:002008-05-19T17:31:00.000-05:00Just that. The only reason there'd been any elevated level of sympathy regarding the China disaster on NoPR is that some of their own just happened to get caught in the muck. If not for that, we know damn well they would've just sing-songed it off in their inimitable way, then it's on to puzzle-time or whatever lame-ass 'oh-so-relevant' singer-songwriter they'd gotten payola'd to feature.

While my direct listener involvement has relievingly ceased, the contempt rages ever on.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27644679.post-42057278349954041402008-05-19T13:39:00.000-05:002008-05-19T13:39:00.000-05:00Glad I missed Jamie's Buffy essay! So much in our popular culture about going over to the Dark Side (Star Wars, etc.)...you'd think there would be more folks who noticed that line was crossed a long time ago.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27644679.post-35341465492215539972008-05-19T12:15:00.000-05:002008-05-19T12:15:00.000-05:00I don't want to waste too much time on this, but I...I don't want to waste too much time on this, but I just have to say, I'm going to stick to my belief that Ed Murrow (and others; Ed's name is easiest to recall) still represent the gold standard as far as on the spot war reporting is concerned. When I heard Jamie Tarabay's meditation on how 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' got her through her Iraq stint, I just had gentle thoughts about it. As in, I'm glad it worked for her, but as for me, it's even more of a reason to view NPR in the following perspective: 'when I was no longer a child, I put away childish things.' There's just too much to criticize. NPR's going to do what it's going to do. I've got to think of my own welfare again and move on.Porter Melmothhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11473990960543501439noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27644679.post-41339959131406989462008-05-19T10:59:00.000-05:002008-05-19T10:59:00.000-05:00Absolutely. But it's all for the ratings, and the corporations LOVE it.

I must say though, I think Louisa Lim is doing good up-front reporting from the quake sites, without all that Siegel & Co.
