I almost fell out of my chair this morning when Steve Inskeep had an interview with author Robert Harris, whose novel, Imperium, I am in the middle of reading). Harris drew parallels between 9-11's impact on US democracy and a little-known raid by pirates on Ostia near Rome, that was used as an excuse by Pompey the Great to assume dictatorial powers. The Roman republic never recovered. Anyway, I kept waiting for Inskeep to interrupt Harris and to discount the parallel, but he didn't.
My name is Matthew Murrey and I'm from Florida, but have been living in the Midwest since 1984. I started this blog because no one else was blogging NPR's drift toward the right - and it made more sense than yelling at the radio.
"Q Tips" is an open thread post where you can place general comments or brief notes about NPR.
