Notice how NPR never pays much attention to Israeli settlements in the West Bank? Well, they've apparently taken a cue from our very own gubmint:
Then there's the settlements issue. In 25 years of working on this issue for six secretaries of state, I can't recall one meeting where we had a serious discussion with an Israeli prime minister about the damage that settlement activity—including land confiscation, bypass roads and housing demolitions—does to the peacemaking process.
Well that's an interesting question, RL, because, if I'm not mistaken, Israel and SA had close relations during the apartheid years, and the speculation was that they'd shared nuke technology.
Indeed, the West Bank has been carefully neglected by the media, as the plain old everyday horrible things that go on there aren't deemed newsworthy. NO ONE is touching the West Bank right now.
This deals with how the US media has reported on the attack on the Gaza strip compared with international and Arab based media coverage. While not specifically addressing NPR, i think the critique and analysis applies.
Settlers are the thin edge of the wedge for the Israelis. Settlement activity is DESIGNED to infuriate the Palestinians, to provoke acts that can then be answered by heavy-handed, disproportionate Israeli strikes.
The purpose of the whole Israeli agenda in Palestine is ethnic cleansing. Nothing they do does not have that embedded in the agenda somewhere. The Israelis have already appropriated about 95% of the water flowing into the region. They will NEVER return a drop of it to any Palestinian Govt. These military exercises are designed to make that unthinkable...
Dropped my Time Warner TV scripted-info-spew digital cable service. I will miss South Park and Even Steven Colbert some but I've always have NPR to satisfy my comedic bones with their nonstop never fail scripted Israel is the victim material delivered with that Ivy League upper crust sneering insensability.
Re US media and Palestine- the video "Peace, Propaganda and the Promised land" is brilliant. The manipulation of language, eg settlements are called neighborhoods. It is some years old, but still very relevant.
