In the credit where credit is due dept:

Yesterday on ATC Melissa Block interviewed a guy who quite plainly, in so many words, pointed out why the UN and US are idiots for putting out an arrest warrant on Sudan's Bashir. Melissa to her credit gave the guy a lot of space to speak, and he, in turn, put the critique in very polite terms, that it was a big "risk" to have put out the warrant.

Unasked and unspoken, of course, is what motivation there would have been for the arrest, assuming the US/UN knew it would just get things riled up -- unless of course "our" aim is to make things worse for the people of Darfur et al.? Gee, you think?

Still, it was a freshing bit of candor on the air, and nice to see some time given over to concern for lives other than "ours."

Grimblebee, i think the motivation is to give Busheviks precedent to ignore similar efforts to bring them to international justice for their war-crimes.

Yes and no. There's about as much chance of the Bushites being called to account as there is my sprouting wings. Though it's true that getting to focus attention on another monster might distract people from thinking about our home-grown ones.

I think there's a deeper, simpler, but more frightening reason, however, consistent with all U.S. foriegn policy, which is essentially to create dischord, suffering, and chaos wherever we can.

Grimblee paragraph:
" I think there is a deeper....chaos ....whenever we can". BINGO !!...and frightening indeed.
