From yesterday's post, re-dumped here ('apologies for re-posting', as they say):

(Note: By golly, I slept through the entire Increeping of the day, except to hear a few lines from sullen Hillary supporters in Ohio. NPR, toadying followers that they are in the news world, always covers the mop-up angle, after the 'facts' are gathered by others. Then, like fat vultures, they spin and speculate in all their tawdry hoity-toity glory...)

More Neocon Public Relations longing for a Neo-Cold War on Mourning Becomes Edition this morn. Whether it was babbling about this shot-down satellite (so that Russia and China don't get the Secret Sam Spy Parts (TM)), or Ted Kop-out in a China coal mine (yeah, I'll bet he REALLY went down two miles into a mine in a country with purportedly the world's worst safety record; but that's what's great about radio - the 'trust' factor!), plus there was some other crappy report about some sort of military porno or other. In the satellite story, Inscreep was determined to enact the NPR 'fairness' doctrine by pressing one (only one) suspicion inquiry: could the military be 'up to something' in this satellite turkey-shoot? Huh? COULD THEY? He didn't even ask the question himself - rather, he couched it in typical Neocon Protectionist Radio style: (paraphrase) 'SOME PEOPLE THINK the US may be up to something...' etc.
Flabbergasting as this stuff is, it shows an 'amateur-hour' approach to propaganda. NPR really isn't very clever, because they're so obvious. I predict that it will catch up with them, hopefully in an Obama future.

The other afternoon en route to Ye Ol' Homestead, the local announcer gave a lead-in to the 'coming next' segment - after the first few words rolled out I groaned...

"oh, SH*T! NOT 'SOUNDS LIKE!'"

Yyyyep. That insipid survey where listeners describe what images in one's mind a person of renown's voice conjures up in them.

So please, PLEASE let them do one for NPR hosts, reporters & announcers! EXAMPLES: "Robeyyyrt Seigel- the droning relative at the family reunion dinner table you wish would just clam it." "Melissa Block: takes me back to when I was occupying a desk in kindergarten." And so on...

I'd like to propose a toast to the NPR defectors!-

Sarah Chayse was interviewed on this week's Moyers - now THERE'S a gal who walks the talk! Against all odds and risks, operating a co-op in Afghanistan.

And does my memory serve correctly that Maria Hinojosa was once on the NPR staff? As a correspondent with "Now" this petite spitfire don't let up! She didn't cower, cave, or lob softballs when grilling an administration official regarding conservation/protection rules for our national lands.

Admiring the conviction of these individuals, I get the impression that they're not merely collecting a paycheck to feather the nest - unlike (ahem!)...

Take some lessons, radio wussies - and the rest of the MSM, for that matter!

Indeed, Sarah is an inspiration. She has long had my admiration, and she had the guts to tell NPR where to put it when they had the audacity to futz with one of her reports.

Maria is one of the best investigative journalists still slugging it out within the shrunken remains of what PBS is supposed to be.

It's a pleasure to acknowledge persons of integrity in the midst of the surrounding wastelands. I'll raise my glass as well.
