Real Achievements

Peter Kenyon was talking about PA head Abu Mazen's rather stunning assertion that Hamas is to blame for Israel's latest Gaza slaughter. Kenyon offered this little plum:
"Abbas has always been a pragmatic politician, more interested in securing real achievements for his people than in being their hero."
No qualifications offered, no facts or evidence put forth to buttress such a glowing statement, and no indication that many people might just consider Abbas a hapless pawn of the US and Israel at best and a stooge and craven puppet at worst.

Ms. Liane had on a stringer reporting from the carnage in Gaza, but only allowed him to speak for a minute or so. The poor man was obviously shattered in relating how the streets were deserted for fear of more airstrikes.

So Ms. Liane's blithe summation to him was, "So that's how they're coping then, by staying inside?"

To which he muttered, (attempting to remain professional, but I could hear the contempt in his voice), "Um...yeah."

Like Bush and Cheney, right?

Tell me another funny one.

Abbas wants Hamas out of the picture precisely because he knows they are far more popular than he is with the Palestinian people.

In fact, I'd bet that there is more than a little resentment (and revenge) involved when it comes to Abbas' support for Isreali actions against Hamas.
